41% of North -Americans think that Bacon comes from a plant, reveals a study published in Journal of Environmental Psychology. And it does not stop there: the article brought a number of other foods classified by participants, such as chips, whose origin was related to animals.
Understand:
- A study revealed that 41% of North children -Americans believe that bacon is a plant;
- The research also shows that sausage, cheese and chicken pepites were also related to vegetables;
- The chips, in turn, stated that they had animal origin for children;
- In addition, most participants believe that cows, pigs and chicken are not edible.

The study brought together 176 southern children -from 4 to 7 years old and involved a team of psychologists. During the investigation, participants had to point out the origins of foods such as cheese, popcorn, eggs, shrimp, almonds, fries and, of course, bacon.

Bacon, pepites and cheese were described as studied plants
Among the results of the research, the authors say that 47% of children believed that the delicious chips came from animals. 44% of participants described cheese as a vegetable, as well as chicken pepites, related to the group of leaves and vegetables for 38% of children.
In the case of Bacon, 41% said it was a plant and another 40% thought the same thing about sausages. The team also called into question the children of what foods may or may not be consumed, and most of them pointed to cows (77%), pigs (73%) and chicken (65%) as non -edible. The sand, meanwhile, was considered a food for 1% of children.

For researchers, study results can be seen as an opportunity for parents to educate their children about the content of their dishes. “Most children in the United States eat animal products, but unlike adults … children seem to be naive consumers of meat.”
“Childhood can represent a unique window of opportunity, during which vegetable -based diets can be established more easily,” the team says in the article.
